100 year McCormick family tradition

Established in 1896 by Joseph McCormick, the company started out constructing storm sewers. It gradually moved into general construction work, including concrete work. In 1927 John J. McCormick joined his father Joseph in running the business, and in 1943 Joseph McCormick passed away. In 1953, Joseph McCormick Construction bought an asphalt plant in Meadville, PA and started concentrating on asphalt contracting. The plant moved to Wesleyville just outside of Erie in 1955. In 1959, John McCormick, Jr. (pictured at right in 1958, in a dark shirt and light pants) took over the company with his brothers Tim and Rich (at right, kneeling next to John).
Since then, Joseph McCormick Construction has steadily grown. John and Rich bought out Tim in 1970, and in 1978 Joseph McCormick Construction Co. became a corporation. In 1990, John bought out Rich, and from 1993 to 1999 the company was run by John's sons: Owen and Matt. In 1999, Owen became the sole owner of Joseph McCormick Construction with the buyout of his father and brother.
