McCormick plant

The present asphalt plant is the latest in a line of plants that go back to the original which was purchased by Joseph McCormick Construction Co., Inc in 1953, and after spending two years in Meadville, PA, was moved in 1955 to the current location in Wesleyville, PA , just east of Erie. The plant is a BLH Madsen 4-ton plant, and it operates from April 1st to November 30th each year.

Under the management of Kathy Claunch, the Asphalt Plant has been the recipient of the prestigious “Diamond Achievement Commendation” every year since 2001. Presented by the National Asphalt Pavement Association, this award recognizes Excellence in Hot Mix Asphalt Plant/Site Operations.

McCormick plant

The asphalt plant produces a wide variety of asphalt mixes including commercial lines of base course, binder, wearing and fine top. In addition to these, the latest technological advances have been implemented to produce the “Superpave” asphalt mixtures now required on state and municipal highways.

The majority of the asphalt produced by the plant is used by McCormick’s own crews on local and state highways throughout Erie County as well as many private subdivisions, parking lots and developments throughout the area.

In addition to providing asphalt to our own paving crews, the plant services many commercial customers including state and municipal maintenance facilities and other asphalt paving contractors.
